Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The First Year Seminar is a one-credit course designed to provide students interested in pursuing degree programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with a successful transition into the College community. The workshop format of the course provides students with information pertaining to the services and resources available at the College and offers the opportunity to advance in reading and writing. The workshop will have an experiential component: Through site visits and field trips to leading STEM institutions, this workshop will introduce students to STEM internships and careers in our region, and course time will be spent assisting students in planning and developing career goals. Course deliverables for each student may include development of a STEM career and goal-setting plan, a polished resume, and a focused internship and employment search. The utilization of technology will be introduced. Course taught during Summer II 2023 Semester (August 21, 22, & 23) from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Additional Information:
COMPENSATION: Anticipated starting salary - Step I DCE pay scale. Part-time, non-benefited. MCCC Unit Position. Grant-funded position.

- Provide instruction in both traditional and non-traditional learning modes.
- Select and develop appropriate materials for each class use.
- Track and assess student progress.
- Maintain appropriate attendance and learner records.
- Work with Cape Cod Regional STEM Network Director to coordinate field trips, site visits, campus events, and virtual events.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Science or another STEM field.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of diverse student populations, STEM transfer requirements, and ability to relate to the needs and interests of students.
- Experiences and knowledge across STEM fields.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- One year of experience as an academic advisor in STEM degree programs.
- One year of Fisexperience teaching at the college level.
- Experience teaching college level seminars in STEM focused Academic Advising, Major Exploration, and Career Planning in STEM fields.
