The Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) Board of Trustees seek confidential nominations and expressions of interest for the college’s eighth president. The successful candidate will build upon the accomplishments of the college and lead the institution to greater heights as it continues to provide quality educational programs and services.
HVCC is the third largest SUNY community college, located in the heart of New York State’s Capital Region. The college is highly regarded for its reputation for quality academic programming, workforce partnership and student support. Its state-of-the-art campus provides an affordable, personalized and exceptional education for students, and the college is an economic, educational, and cultural lynchpin for the region.
HVCC offers 85 degree and certificate programs, including Associate in Applied Science, Associate in Occupational Studies, Associate in Arts and Associate in Science programs; 22 one-year certificate programs; 22 registered online programs; hundreds of online courses; and a variety of evening programs.
HVCC is a student-centered institution with dedicated faculty and staff committed to student success. The next president will work within shared governance to enhance student success initiatives, particularly in areas such as advising and student retention, through the implementation of creative advising models and deeper partnerships with local schools and organizations.
Some of the expected qualifications for the next President include:
- A doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field of study is required.
- A demonstrated understanding of the unique mission, challenges and opportunities of community colleges. This person will have a demonstrated history of experience and success in leading and managing opportunities, including expectations and alignment of the organizational structure with its mission, goals and values, ideally in a collective bargaining institution.
- An extensive background in financial oversight, along with demonstrated fundraising initiatives.
- Experience in collaborative decision making with consideration of differing points of view.
- A deep and abiding commitment to advancing equity on campus.
- Experience as a teacher, with a deep understanding of the needs and challenges of faculty and students.
